I tried on about 6 things H&M yesterday. There was only one light in the fitting room, so the pictures are bad. I will still do a write-up anyway. After the try-on, I realize why I don’t shop there as much as Forever 21. They’re both low-priced retailers, but I find F21 to fit me better. I’ve been shopping at the store since their first or one of their first locations in Los Angeles. I’ve rolled with them the past 20 years and even wore a few things during maternity. I’ll be laughing if they’re still around in 2 more decades and I’m still lurking around the accessories.
Promo codes are more frequent at Forever 21 than in the past, so I’ve ordered a few times over the past month. I try to really be sure about what I’m buying because once they get your money, they got it. Store credit only and no exchanges at all for jewelry. Other non-returnable merchandise is marked on the website. Since I’ve shopped with them so long, I have a pretty good idea of how the items will fit. They also provide the measurements for at least one size in each item, which is remarkable given the volume of merchandise they have.
Here’s how my orders turned out. I bought the woven plaid scarf ($6) in red, in-store. It’s not the softest fabric. It’s just a tad rough, but I love the large, red & black check. I thought about getting it in the grey/black, which is still available online, but it’s not a need.
I saw the lace-paneled top in-store, but no size M. It showed up online and I got it. The shoulders are juuust a bit tight, but not too much. It fits great everywhere else, which means it’s got a looser cut. The electric blue is very beautiful.
The pintuck cami looks just like the picture. I got a size M. It’s just a little bit tight at the chest. I measure 37″ across the fullest part. There’s one reviewer who says it was shapeless. I can see how that would be the case on someone who is thin. It looks loose on the model, which is why I thought it would and does fit me.
I also ordered the chained medallion bracelet. Meh. I’m not sure I would’ve purchased it if I’d tried it in-store. If I don’t wear it, it’ll definitely look good on my sister. It’s lightweight. I thought it might feel just a tad on the weighty side and the medallions as-defined as the photo. That’s not the case. I’m not disappointed because the jewelry can be a gamble since quality changes from season to season.
I also ordered the stripe toggle cardigan in sz S, which I tried in-person before doing so. I love the colors and the fit. It’s on the lighterweight size. Not thick. It’s fine by me. The colors are worth it. This is the type of thing you used to be able to thrift in the 90s, before everyone discovered thrifting. I now just buy the acrylic, new, from Forever 21. I’ll wear the J. Crew sleeveless silk shirt in black when I receive it this week. That’s now $49.99 in-store, fyi.
I was thinking of ordering the plaid flannel overcoat and I still might. My only questions are whether that wool looks cheap and if the colors are as vibrant as online. I have a large check jacket by Forever 21 and the wool looks pretty good, so it doesn’t feel like too much of a gamble. It’s just the will I wear it question. It’s starting to feel colder here, but we can often get by with just a sweater. I think the code will work till 11:59 PST, so I’m going to walk away and see how I feel later.
ETA: Ok, so I ordered this by mistake. I went thru the online ordering process and chose Paypal since I can only exchange it anyway, no return to my card. When I finished on Paypal, I thought I’d be taken back to the F21 site and I was. With the order complete! lol I didn’t get a chance to review my purchase before making a final decision. I was going to example the whole asymmetrical zipper thing. I guess I’ll be doing it in-person.
I was kind of in a shopping mood this weekend. That’s what being sick will do for ya. Not that I need to be sick-and-shut in to clickety click online. All of my purchases were questionable:
- F21 plaid flannel overcoat – Will the colors be vibrant? Was S the right size?
- Choies faux fur top – Will the color be the same as online? Was M the right size choice? Will it look like a rug?
- Groopdealz blanket scarf, #5 – Will the manmade fibers feel cheap? Will the colors look as good as online?
- Groopdealz polka dot skirt – Will the material give me the heebs? Will the XL even fit?
If you shopped this weekend, I hope you made better decisions than I did. lol
