I worked a voiceover job yesterday and it was a few blocks from Super Bowl City. I didn’t even know which teams are in the Super Bowl, but I decided to head down anyway. After all, when will San Francisco host the Super Bowl again?
I’m so glad I went! As soon as I arrived, I asked a kid to take a pic of me and he wanted $5 after he did it. I laughed it off, but I”m pretty sure he was very serious. Nice try, kid.
My first stop was to try to hit a spiral thru the hole. I got three tries and almost made it. A very cool guy behind me agreed to take photos. He did a good job and no charge, lol. The “city” smelled sooo good with the various food trucks and there were beer and wine stands, too. I always get sticker shock, even though I should know what to expect at events like this. A glass of cab was $12. It tasted really good, though. Gotta love California!
My next stop was the Macy’s Star Zone. I downloaded a code from the Star Zone and was able to open any of the lockers to select a promo gift card. I think they were all worth $10. I loved it. Then I did a little photoshoot with props they had (right pic). After that, I signed a waiver to participate in a stationary bike race. Four of us pedaled until four stars lit up on the two tv screens in front of us. I don’t know where I placed, but it wasn’t first. The winner got a $10 gift card. The guy running that section told me that a man had come thru 6x and won each time. He was racking up cards for a special purchase, apparently. I went thru a 2nd time before I went home and got beat by another senior — lol — but the guy recognized me from before and gave me a $10 promo card. I think I’m going to buy this necklace in gold. I have and love the silver. Simple, non-statement jewelry are good staples for me to have for work.
I watched former Olympic gymnast, Shawn Johnson do handstands with a couple of kids from the crowd. Then she did a short interview. Isn’t that a massive and awesome screen? I wanted a shot in front of it and…
…this is the shot the security guard got of me. I had gestured to the screen behind me and asked him to include it, but nah. Didn’t happen.
Everyone was in good spirits and no drama or rambunctionness. There were police in battlegear and long rifles, which had to be a factor in people keeping cool. However, I think the Super Bowl spirit was prevalent and everyone just wanted to have a good time. I saw a guy taking selfies with this building as the backdrop, so I offered to take pics of him. Then he returned the favor.
I think I spent about 4 hours, just walking around and enjoying everything. I didn’t feel self conscious at all being alone. I’ve learned to just talk to whomever I want to that seems friendly enough and, more importantly, just be ok in my own skin. Most people are usually caught up in themselves anyway and don’t scrutinize other people. Singer Goapele opens tonite for Alicia Keys on a stage not too far from where I’m standing in this pic. I cannot believe they’ve had free concerts like this. I think it’s worth it for fans if it’s an artist you really want to see.
Good luck to both teams tomorrow. I will probably have the game on if I’m at home. I like the commercials and the half time show. And I also enjoy watching people play in the most important games of their careers. That’s always pretty cool.
Are you Super Bowling tomorrow?
