I had a feeling the Ann Taylor Friends & Family would get extended thru today and it did. The code is FRIENDS40. I’m tempted to make the drive for modern all-season stretch trousers (8P) because they fit well and are 40% off in-store. However, I recently joined the gym again and I’m feeling like I’m on a roll. I’m optimistic that I’ll drop a few pounds and they won’t fit. So I might just wait and catch them on a promo. Here are some reviews.
Cheetah print cocoon dress ($139) runs regular XXS – XXL (341438) and petite XXS – XL (349365).
Size S – A decade ago I found a slinky leopard print dress in a thrift shop for 3, 4 or 5 dollars. I thought it might make a good costume. Or I’d lounge around in it at home. I did both. I wore it for Halloween with a bone tied in my hair and a necklace of bones. It was probably one of the best and easiest costumes I’ve ever worn. I don’t have the same excitement for this leopard dress offering. Ok, we like the v neck. I have a shorter neck, so I always appreciate that. The love stops there.
The side seams are sewn to veer, yes veer, toward the front of the dress. It was really odd looking. Not slimming. This dress wasn’t my friend. It’s too bad because the tan background is the perfect shade, as are the spots. I usually like a wider spread pattern and maybe slightly larger dots, but this works as-is. The dress does not.
Faux leather sleeved stripe dress ($129) regular XXS – XXL (344214) and petite XXS – XL (349662).
Size S – Cute concept. Honestly, I’d prefer real leather sleeves in theory. However the idea of machine washing this number is far more attractive and realistic for my lifestyle. Are you like me, driving around with a bag of to-be-dry-cleaned clothes in your car for weeks? I’m so bad with that.
The size S fit fine, so tt. It did feel just a little big around the chest and just below, but I wouldn’t size down.
Size PM – I meant to put the S next to the PM in the collage for comparison, but I forgot. They fit about the same, with the petite being a little bit shorter.
Close-up of the faux leather. It looks pretty good. I love the stripes, of course. The pocket isn’t a real pocket. Unless there’s something I missed. It’s a fake pocket outlined in faux leather. I guess that prevents weight being added in that area, but it was a little odd. Also, one of the insides of the dresses absolutely drove me nuts at the right pocket. I couldn’t get it to sit right on the inside and it was bugging the crap out of me. So maybe there’s a pocket there after all?
At Bloomingdale’s. Stripes, but faux leather at the bottom of the dress. Addtl 25% off w/AUGUST.
The Ann Taylor dress reviewed directly below makes me think of Demi Moore in Indecent Proposal. Her famous 1993 movie dress had no zippere, but lo and behold I found an image of her in a zipper dress circa 2011. ETA…hey, Ann Taylor does have an Indecent Proposal dress.
The touch of faux leather looks good.
Ann Taylor Reviews
* Dotted mesh lace shift dress – Thumbsup on this one. TTS.
* Pintuck perfect shirt – I almost got this one. Size PM fit well. Definite thumbsup.
* Polka dot short sleeve shirtdress – Really, really cute on. Too bad it’s 100% poly, but I really liked it. And this is coming from someone who has given up on buying polka dots because I end up not wearing them.
* Striped ruffle sleeveless shirt – Stripes + a subtle ruffle Really cute. It’s poly, but I like the design. I think I’d get a PM in this to bring up the length a bit.
