Today, Sat, is the last day to save promo, an additional 50% off clearance at Banana Republic, in-store. The deals are good. I saw a few cute dresses. On the other hand, they have the crappy sweater problem plaguing many retailers right now. However, they have one that’s a winner.
The metallic scoopneck sweater ($69.50) – It’s $38 + 50% off. Holla! Size S fits me well. The fabric feels substantial, like a sweater. However, it’s not too thick. J Crew’s shimmer bow sweater pales in comparison. Because the BR top is like a sweater, the fit doesn’t slouch around on the body. No on-the-body irl pics. Whenever I try to take pics, Mini G wakes up and I end up tossing everything on the floor to run and get her. One day in the future more irl pics will happen again.
The scoop on the neck is more wide than it is deep, but it’s not a boatneck. It looks slouchy, but it’s not. It follows the shape of the body, but doesn’t cling. If you’re in the store and don’t see your regular size, consider trying one size down if they have it. In days of yester, I would’ve sized down to a XS.
Shirring at the waist. I’m ’bout it! I need all the tummy area help I can get. The shirring doesn’t create lines across the entire waist, which is good. I really like this top.
Fitted shrug ($55) – This is $27.99 in-store + 50% off. I didn’t dig the fit. It was just meh, so it’ll be going back. The red is a great shade, though. It would be cute over a dress.
Banana Republic is looking up for spring. Here are a couple handbags I noted.
Maya colorblock clutch ($89.50) – I saw this online and the desire to see it irl led me to the store. The colorblocking is cool. That always gets me. The leather is not that great. It’s ok. Maybe a 7 or 8 on a scale of 1-10, for what you’d expect at that price point. So I’m starting w/lower expectations to a degree. The main thing is that it seems like it would bulge in certain places depending on where you put your items, i.e. cell phone. I know you’re not supposed to pack a clutch, but I like the ones that have a little well for some space
Joanna leather tote ($150) – This was a disappointment. The leather had a slight sheen in a way that I’m not a fan of. I didn’t check to see if there were feet on the bottom of this. The absence of little metal feet can also be a deterrent. I toootally don’t need another bag because I just got a replacement on Rue La La for my black patent tote. Will be sharing that soon as I’m able.
Leighton leather tote ($150) – This might come in grey, in addition to the black. It definitely comes in a color that Crayola called flesh. Anyone remember that? They changed the color name to peach in 1962, but I’m certain I saw boxes with the flesh crayon in it as a child. Did you know they have multi-cultural crayons? There are ‘only’ 8 colors in the box, but at least there’s a range. Anyway — BR is marketing this handbag as a laptop tote. It caught my eye as a regular handbag, but I see the intent in the design. You have to see that pale nude/flesh color. It’s beautiful.
I guess it’s retail only as I only see black available online. The camel colors *is* available online. Thanks, Vicky!
