I went to Banana Republic earlier in the week to return a couple of items. One was the French cuff shirt. I prefer J Crew button downs, so I’m sticking with those. Thanks to JCJewels who sold a J’Crewlet one to me in grey. Yay! The other item I returned was the chiffon ruffle placket tee. I liked this top, but am hoping that the grey or white will provide more contrast so those are on the way. If you have longer arms, this is a good top for you. It has a tight fit thru the body, but it doesn’t cling in a bad way. The ruffles might be a lot for a larger chest, but right now I think it’s can fit a range of body types.
When I went into the store, I wasn’t greeted. Two employees were talking in a corner about merch and continued to do so even though it was clear that I had walked in the big glass doors. Uninspired by the vibe and not being enthralled w/BR these days anyway, I made my way to the register. I paused to peek in the jewelry cases. I encountered 4 more employees grouped up, talking. No greeting for me there either. They were ecstatic, however, when their co-worker came out of the back room (?) to show off her engagement ring. I gave up on the jewelry case and went to the register, trying to diffuse my irritation with my experience so far. That energy was acknowledged as an employee came up to the register to see if she could help me. — I’m going somewhere with this, really — I returned my items and on the way out, I had to stop by the jewelry case another time. Again, two employees stood talking. No greeting. No can I help you. I almost walked out, but I was very much interested in this necklace, so I interrupted them.
I purchased the necklace & matching bracelet and saw a stack of coupons on the counter. I knew exactly what they were. I believe the procedure is to give one out to customers at the time of purchase. I had a suspicion I wasn’t getting one, so I decided to reach on over and grab one. So did the lady next to me. Well, she did before me and I copied. And because I was so irritated, I reached to grab two more. As I skipped off to J Crew, I counted and saw that I ended up with seven!
I don’t know what it is about BR employees, but they don’t always extend themselves or seem genuinely happy/excited about/interested in the merchandise. Some of them simply act put out. This particular store underwent a huge renovation in the past year and there is probably residual stress from that, but at some point you have to move on. And I don’t know who the store director is, but the culture begins from the top. I don’t find the same dissatisfaction with Gap or ON. The employees there are consistently good, esp at Old Navy.

Things that look pretty…esp at 40% off
I heard that floral tee (1st row, 2nd top) might be for the birds, but it’s so pretty. I saw it in-person as a customer was purchasing and I was intrigued. Didn’t get to see it up close, though. I sure as heck wasn’t wandering around that store looking for it or trying it on.
Thanks for stopping by…good luck! The cutoff for entries is Monday, 2/22 8:59 PST.
