From time to time I assert that this is a fashion blog for topics lite. I like to keep it that way and don’t feel compelled to cover world news. I mean, do you really need me to add my $.02 to mass of info? Not really.
Nevertheless, I’ve had a couple of banners up that you can click thru to find out about giving to help relief efforts to the people of Japan. I’ll probably keep the one up near the header there for awhile. For any disaster the Red Cross always makes it easy to donate. They’re currently accepting minimum donations of $10. You can also make a $25 donations thru Paypal and choose from one of 4 organizations that will go to.
Also in the blogosphere today is the For Japan With Love effort. Many bloggers have pledged a day of silence and only the graphic from Utterly Engaged, plus info on how to donate will appear on their blogs. So here’s the graphic:
I loved reading about this effort. All proceeds go to Shelterbox. One Shelterbox costs $1k US and can tent an extended family, including “blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.”
Utterly Engaged is an online wedding magazine. Their goal was to raise enough money to send 5 boxes thru their For Japan With Love effort. This means they only trying to rack up $5k. They’ve currently raised over $37k and when I think bout the power of this number, I get chills. That can send 32,000 boxes more than the original goal. I think there’s a lot of pressure that comes thru blogs and I don’t want to intentionally add to it. If you’re going to give, you’re going to give. But if you’re on the fence, today I’ll try to push you over. I have 862 visible followers. That doesn’t include lurkers and others who subscribe thru other feeds. If each visible follower & I donate $5, that equals over $4k. We could collectively send 4 boxes thru 5 buck donations. Amazing.
Comments will be closed for this. Please do whatever feels comfortable for you. And I’m not pledging silence, so if I get my act together you’ll see another post today. Fashion lite, of course.
