When I went to BlogHer14 last week, I thought Kerry Washington was speaking on the first day. I wanted to wear something bright and happy, so I chose this outfit. I was really bummed when I learned that she was speaking on Saturday. Yes, this is the outfit I had on when I had my breakdown at the conference. Hands down the brightest garment I own. Even though I cried in and probably on this, I wore it that nite along w/these very old heels by Jessica Simpson.
Ring: very old Forever 21
Earrings: Groopdealz. Suggestions below.
Since I was driving and had no excessive weight cost considerations, I took a full, heavy suitcase. However, my outfits were carefully planned and there were no backup looks. I seriously thought about wearing the above outfit twice, but I’m not in Sweden so that would’ve just been weird. When I was there for a number of months, an American girl I met told me that Swedish people repeat clothing and if you don’t it’s odd to them. It seemed to be confirmed when one of the male librarians had the same plaid pants on a number of times I saw him. I digress.
I was pretty proud of myself for not going shopping. I almost went to J. Crew to buy the arrow-print shift dress (review), but I decided it would be a waste of time. I wasn’t there to go shopping. I was there to learn. I stuck with what I’d planned for Day 2. Someone asked for the details on Instagram, so here they are:
Shoes: J. Crew seville wedges in citrus lime (review)
Conference gear prep
I did a little online research, but didn’t digest a ton of BlogHer tips for what to prepare for or what to expect because I didn’t want to feel rigid about the event. I didn’t want to feel thrown off if things didn’t go as planned. I’d only decided a week ago to attend, so I wanted to keep it relaxed and accept whatever planning I was able to do within a week’s time. One thing I did and would absolutely do again was pack by outfit. I tried on each possible entire ensemble with necklaces, shoes and cardigans. I ruled out most bracelets because I didn’t want any noisy arm stacks. Because I tried on the full outfit, I was happy with them overall and didn’t have to decide what to wear or in what combination because I’d already decided at home.
If I was going to do anything over, I would’ve worn something bright for the 2nd day. I thought I wanted to blend in, but I found the bright colors other women had on to be very helpful. Imagine leaving the lunch to go to the restroom, returning and trying to find your table in a grand ballroom of 1000 or so people. My striped Kate Spade tote (current option) helped me find my way back to my table a few times. Brights or not, I really liked everything I wore and felt comfortable the entire time.
What are your must haves or must wears for conferences?
p.s. 40-50% off still going with TREAT still going on promo & sale items at J. Crew.
