I try on a lot of clothes. Most are for the blog. Some I buy with the intent to keep. Some I buy just to try them at home and see how they play with other items I own. And some I buy because of price, which is a potetial pitfall. In this post, I shared items at J Crew retail that I’ve purchased and have actually been wearing and/or are keeping. Some were returns. Here’s a similar round-up on the Factory side.
Anchor sweatshirt – I’m mad at this top. It’s a sweatshirt tee. If we removed the word sweatshirt altogether, the description would still be accurate. I broke my you-don’t-need-another-diggetydanggone-sweatshirt rule for nothing. Will return. (disclaimer: unless it goes perfectly w/the Maya sandals in belvedere red)
Clare cardigan in seahorse (styling idea) – I didn’t try it, but I’m a solid M in in the Clare cardi. I like the off-white color and the mint seahorse. I’m guessing it’ll be a keeper.
Classic button-down shirt in printed cotton – floral (review) – The sunwashed aqua is now $27.99 online. I still like this top and I will admit that I can’t find it, so I’ve never worn it. I think I mixed it with some winter clothes. That’s the perils of buying too early in the season. Keeper.
Classic button-down shirt in printed cotton – pineapple – I ordered this sight unseen in M. I still haven’t recvd it, but tried on S the other day and it fit well. They are definitely functional and are a lot of fun when I see them styled in the blogosphere and on Instagram. However, when I’m wearing them I feel dowdy more often than not. Button-downs are unsexy on me, in general. I’ll be returning this. And no, you cannot cyberpunch me if you see me in a button-down online. As I said, they serve their purpose. Will likely return. FYI the Charley in pineapple (review) is currently $29.50 online.
Coral tweed blazer (review) – I liked this and the classic, sorbet tones. I decided that I preferred the vibrancy of the plaid bouclé tweed jacket (scroll down), which I’ve only worn a few times. Returned.
Embroidered peasant top – Size XS and S both fit. I literally tried them on about 6x/each. I finally settled on XS in navy and S in in white. The navy is dark and it’s easy to look slimmer in darker colors. I didn’t find it see-thru either. In contrast, the white has some sheerness to it, so the extra material that the S offers helps create opacity. $39.97 in-store + 60% off still going as of Fri,6 /27.
Leather envelope clutch (old review of gold) – Here’s another one of my justifications, I have nothing like it! That’s true with regard to the silver color, but untrue regarding silhouette as I have a number of the retail invitation & factory envelope versions. Might buy in silver.
Printed crinkle tunic – Size M for me. I tried the anchor and punk floral and passed on both. Didn’t get the feeling. I really liked the pink print, which I bought for $19.97 + 60% off in-store. As prices get lower, things get cuter or suddenly jump out where you never noticed them before.
Short sleeve kisses sweatshirt – This feels like a sweatshirt. It’s lightweight, but has a cozy, sweatshirt feel. I wanted to get it based on the comfortability. However, I have enough of the sayings-on-t-shirts. I’m certain I have a Banana Republic sweater, that says something in it on French, that I haven’t worn. Pass for me. Thumbsup.
Short-sleeve popover in stripe (review) – I usually don’t like these short sleeve tops on me from J. Crew, but this one works. I like the stripes + anchors. I think if either of the prints were solo, I wouldn’t have liked the top on me. Have worn a few times. Keeper.
Stone seed necklace – The black is pretty. Factory quality. Not particularly heavy. I ordered & haven’t recvd the white yet. I assume it’s niceas well. I could use a non-statement white necklace. Keeper, I think.
Straight and narrow jean (review) – I love this lighter shade. $29.99 in-store and addtl 60% off clearance was still going in-store as of Fri, 6/27. Bought a back-up pair.
Stripe linen-cotton sundress (review) – If I hadn’t tried, and looked good in, a number Loft dresses of this season I probably would’ve accepted this dress as a decent look. I really liked a lot of things about it, but there were too many pleats and the skirt looked too full on me. Passed.
Three-quarter sleeve beaches sweatshirt (Instapic) – Here we go. Another discussion about sweatshirts. Rules are made to be…purchased, apparently. Was too cute and cozy. Have worn it quite a bit. Moreso than my retail navy version. Keeper.
Tie-neck peasant top (review) – I’m waiting for this to arrive in XS, white. Can’t wait to wear it. I’ve cut the tassels off of a couple of the J. Crew tunics. A few I left alone. I’ll probaby keep the tassels on this top. When I need to make sure items aren’t put in the dryer, I throw them into a before putting them in the dirty clothes. That way. Keeper.
What happened to George?
George — my husband — has unceremoniously disappeared from Fridays. I wanted to have him write a post to do a sign-off of sorts, but we both got really busy. Fridays disappeared into the landscape of the other days of the week. There was a request for him to review Ludlow pieces, which he may do in the future. As it stands, the men’s items pretty much fit tts and the offerings don’t change enough to warrant weekly reviews. We will probably see him in the future, though.
Save 30% off jewelry storage at Michael’s. Prices usually change at Michael’s on Sundays. I have about 2 of the tall velvet t-stands for neklaces and 2 stands for bracelets. I purchased them from Ebay for way more than these prices. Mine might be made a little better, but I bought them at least 4-5 years ago. We all know quality has declined in almost all things, across all industries.
