Sam Edelman Becker in New Leopard ($110)
Thanks for letting me guest post, Gigi!
I’ve been gravitating towards neutral clothing paired with interesting footwear (aka lazy days), and the leopard slip on trend led the way for me to order the slip ons in leopard from . The website says they’re synthetic footbed, real cowhair upper, with a one inch lift. For a casual slip on sneaker, $110 is on the higher side, and the quality reflects this, IMO. The rubber feels sturdy yet flexible, the stitching is even, and the cowhair upper doesn’t feel coarse as it can be with cheaper shoes. The brand’s logo is a raised in white at the heel, but nothing too noticeable or gauche.
My first impression was that the pattern was too large – the spots are quite bold and the background color is significantly lighter compared to the spots. However, once I got them on, the pattern doesn’t look like it’s too much, and the colors are the right tint for the style. Leopard shoes can look obnoxious if not done well, and I like the black lining on this pair, since it adds a bit of polish to well, a leopard sneaker, which is a pretty bold shoe to throw out there if you’re as old as me. Ha.
I normally wear a 9 in almost all closed toe shoes but as several reviews recommended sizing down, I ordered an 8.5, and this was the right choice. My feet are on the narrow side of medium, and the 8.5 fit well, but they are still the tiniest bit loose with no socks. I’d say most feet would fit best in 1/2 size down from your normal shoe size. If you’re in between sizes, I’d also say to size down if your feet aren’t wide.
And see it styled on Caroline.
