Size 4 – neon citrus – Arrow print, ok. I didn’t inspect it closely. I would’ve called it chevron with a tribal placket. lol I can’t tell you how fast I’m going when I do try-ons. You can feel the texture in the fabric, which is interesting. Y’know, more interesting than it just being a print. I liked that about it. It’s unlined, but it’s thick. Like housecoat thick and that’s two things I didn’t like about it. 1) It felt a bit heavy for the sleeveless style and 2) It was too much of a shift for me. I got a…stepping outside-the-front-door-to-bring-in-the milk-bottles-feeling from it.
But I love a shift, so I put on my ‘heels,’ to see if that would change things. It always does. The dress looked better, but it was still too shift-y. I figured out why aaaand what’s wrong w/many of the tops and dresses these days at J Crew. Zippers! No, not the exposed zippers. I’m talking about a lack of side or rear, non-exposed zippers.
In general, the fashion world has been pushing a slouchier, more casual fit on us. It’s gotta be cost driven. Unfortunately, it drives me to dislike a good number of pieces that should have a better fit. J Crew has offered shifts without zippers that fit ok. Brain is filing, filing. Can’t think of one right now, but I know one must exist because I haven’t rejected every single dress. I liked and purchased the crepe shift dress (review), which would’ve come at least with a back zip in the past. There’s no zipper on it. I had to go down to a size 2 to get the right fit.
If you’ve been around in the past week, you know I’m in love w/the current Loft dressess. They don’t have zippers in the garments either and most of their dresses don’t come with pockets. Neither matter because the fit is right and very flattering, in many cases. I love you Loft geo cotton eyelet shirt dress.
There’s a hook-eye closure at the neck. You have to see this dress on Ema and how she tricked us.
ETA 6/11 – I received and tried on the 4P (no pics). My goal was to get the fit of the 2, but a shorter length. It fit exactly but not in a good way. The soft v-shaped seam that runs across the bust was too tight at the sides. It didn’t feel uncomfortable, but it sat oddly, visually. It was too high and started to do that maternity thing where it looks like you’re trying to have room for a bump. The length was ok and didn’t get too short, but the dress didn’t feel like it hung correctly in the petite, so I returned it. I think the 6P would get too wide in the body, so I won’t be stalking it.
