J Crew classic short-sleeve shirtdress in gingham (SU16, $118) runs regular XXXS – XXL (F3189), petite PXXS – PL (F3190) and tall TXS – TL (F5574). 100% cotton. The color is called black white (BWH). Machine wash cold, gentle cycle with like colors, non-chlorine bleach, line dry, warm iron. Made in the Philippines.
Size S – The size felt right, so tts. The gold lamé version of this dress early last fall ran numerically (review). I felt in-between in the numeric sizes, so I think it’s better in alpha sizes. The fabric is in the vein of a cotton buttondown shirt, hence the “classic shirtdress” product name.
The Judy Jetson sleeve still isn’t doing it for me. This would be more of a match for me with a shoulder seam. Narrower and/or longer sleeves would help, too. This is probably one where I simply need a petite size for the scale to correct. I’m 5’0″. On the upside, it felt as comfortable as a shift dress.
Here’s the magic of a pendant. It brings the eye downward. The sleeves are still poppin’ loud and proud, but the eye is drawn down and to the top middle of the chest. I always love the convenience of pockets for my hands, but I usually don’t put things in them. Ok, maybe some Skittles now and again, but I don’t put my keys or anything into a dress pocket. I prefer they’re left off if they’re going to add weight at my hips, which I assume might’ve been the case on this dress if it had pockets.
The scale of the gingham is fine by me. The style is cute, even though the sleeves aren’t a match for me. Pockets would be convenient, but I get why they’re not on this dress.
Maison Jules – This a made-for-Macys line or at least one that is only available at Macy’s. They always have very cute, on-trend pieces. The fit is closer to juniors than womens. I would try a M in this style.
Nine West – I think I might own one Nine West dress. I’d probably try a 6 in this style. It has pockets, btw.

* Flutter-sleeve top ($59.99) – SP16
* Silk clip dot top ($69.99) – SP16 – review
* Tie-front pant in lightweight bi-strech wool ($59.99) – I have grey and navy in 6. They run tts. If you don’t like bows at your waist, don’t get these because the belt is sewn to the waistband. I’m in a mild climate and they’re good for spring and fall days. Such a good deal at a net $30.
* Trench cape ($139.99) – SP16 – review
