J Crew’s jubilee jacket in tinsel tweed (61397, $250) runs 00-14. FYI, it’s catalog/.com only. 55% acrylic/24% poly/14% nylon/7% wool, lining is 100% acetate. Made in the Philippines. Only noting that because most garments are made in China these days. The color is called natural.
Size 4 – I wish I’d ordered a size 6 to get a better fit. If I were keeping this, I’d stick w/a 4. The jacket fit everywhere except the stomach. Um, my stomach. I guess I have to claim it. Right off the bat, I didn’t like the neckline. I immediately though Elizabethan. Yeah, the collar is not as dramatic as that, but the thought definitely popped right into my mind. I get the fringe trim, but didn’t like it. Now that I see the pics, I’m thinking this jacket is just not the best color. It was a little dull.
Here it is open. I know you can see that it’s open. I just like to point these out as we take a look at the pics. Keeps me focused. It looked better open. However, there is a grosgrain ribbon down the front placket that didn’t look…upscale, shall we say. I think it was the type of closure they used. It isn’t buttoned. It’s looks like a staple. As in Swingline staple. Boo.
Notice the wrinkles at the elbow. Those are from putting it on in the fitting room. I lifted that arm to try to take a photo and that’s how it looked. Can you imagine what the sleeves would look like after wearing the jacket all day? I think the double pockets are cute, but…
…no. Not for me.
Close up of fabric. If you notice, there is a spot. It was on the front, at the chest. Although it’s small, it’s dark and I thought it was pretty noticeable. I wiped at it and without knowledge of textiles decided it’s a part of the weave. I would’ve probably exchanged it to get a ‘better’ jacket. I wouldn’t mind if the blemish was somewhere more inconspicuous.
Yeah, so just not my personal style. The vibe was matronly. It gave me a Talbots feeling. Somewhere in between an old-I-never-stepped-in-that-grandma-store-Talbots and the new-we’re-red-hot-Talbots. Definitely Talbots. This is not bad. Just my opinion. And while I find things at Talbots (helloooo to my machine wash 100% cotton starburst sweater ($19.49), the juibilee jacket just wasn’t a match for my personal style. I am so glad I didn’t “try” this on final sale.
