J Crew midi skirt in cotton clip-dot (SU16, $89.50). Color choices are burnished orange, warm charcoal and white. I tried the warm charcoal in size 8P (not pictured) and it was a no. It might look better in a smaller size, but I wanted it to read more black than it did. The lighter your skintone, the more contrast there will be. The warm charcoal will read darker on others than on myself. I returned it.
Size 4 – burnished orange – I think this is a regular 4, but I’m not sure. I review the white one below and will discuss sizing more. I like the clip dot texture. It’s like little tissues, but doesn’t look ratty. They look like unstitched swiss-dots.
Size 4P – white – I tried the 6P and it definitely fit better than the 8P, but the waist still felt a little loose. My concern was that if I wear it during the day and it starts sagging a bit, the skirt will wear lower and start twisting. I’d prefer a tight fit with the elastic.
The front is a regular band and the rear is elastic. I like that. It’s more comfortable and I can get it to fit no matter what size my stomach chooses to be for the day. I mentioned in another post that I have an umbilical hernia. Some days it really sticks out and others it’s not so bad. I’ll have surgery for that later this year.
For size reference I’m 5’0″ and have a regular to slightly longer inseam for my height. I don’t have stilts, but my legs aren’t short, either. I think my hip to knee length is longer, in proportion to my knee to ankle length.
I was concerned that the back looked tight in the 4P. After all, that is a size 2 regular equivalent. It fits across the back without any draping from the pleating. That’s fine with me as I will likely have a top on that covers the top part of my rear. Plus, I don’t need extra curtains in the back. Additional fabric only adds weight.
Here’s a look for the burnished orange.

Ballet cap-sleeve t-shirt (SU16, E8691, $29.50) runs XXXS – XL. Color choices are cobalt (COB), neon cantaloupe (NCA), pale citrus (PCI), pink orchid (POR), rich moss (RMO), shadow (SHA), venetian green (VGR), vivid citrus (VCI) and warm cerise (WCE). 80% cotton, 20% linen.
Size M – rich moss – I liked the slack in the body of this shirt. When there’s extra room, I also don’t have to worry about dryer shrinkage. The neckline sits lower, away from the shoulders. I like that because a higher neckline shortens the neck. This is a nice, neutral green. I have a lot of it in my wardrobe and wear it in summer.
A nice feature about this top is that it enhances the waistline. It might be because the arm hole sits up higher to the arm and the short sleeve jutting out makes the waist look more inward. I hope this is making sense. It’s sounding like a jumble as I type it.
