Hello and welcome to another review!
Midnight floral cocoon top (SU15, $98) runs regular 000-16 (C4260), petite 00-12 (C7460) and tall 2-16 (C7471).
6/11 – cut to $79.99 online
Size 8P – It’s nice to see this top come in at just under $100. I took these pics with the iPhone 6 plus, no filter. There tends to be a fish eye sort of look to cell phone pics, sometimes. However, I noticed that the print is even making the model’s stomach look a little bloated. It must be a visual trick. Notice that I’m in an 8P, so if you’re short or have a short torso, you might prefer the petite length. I’m 5’0″, 34DD.
My jeans are Loft’s modern straight jeans in white (8P). I have last year’s version and rolled them twice. I imagine this year’s version fit the same. Everything is 40% off at the moment at Loft, no code needed.
Shoes are the Anne Klein Petricia. They’re tts and the most comfortable shoes ever. #byecece — yep, they’re even more comfortable than J. Crew’s Ceces. My foot is a medium with and I usually take 7.5 in flats.
Back to the cocoon top. I don’t know what’s cocoon about it, because it’s not particularly blousy. It fit like a regular top. There’s no seams or darts, so there will be little waist definition. The bigger your chest, the more the top will sit away from your body from your bust down. I do miss the side zips that gave these types of tops a more figure flattering fit.
This felt very much TTS to me. It wasn’t cut oversize like the things we’ve seen over the last year. This cut is very refreshing.
I had on a J. Crew patent belt and the tie-dye indigo scarf as part of my ootd. The belt is anywhere from 1-3 years old and clearly goes with the print. The scarf is from SP15 and something they might pitch as a match with this print in a Style Guide. I wouldn’t wear the scarf with this top, but the colors harmonize. I absolutely love J. Crew and their color library for this fact.
ETA: I was asked for specifics about the belt. It’s style# 29943, patent-leather square buckle belt (cached page). I’m not finding record of it in my email, so I must’ve purchased it in-store. Based on the style#, I tried to guess which year the belt is from. Two basics, the stretch perfect shirt & Jackie cardigan begin with 29. It might be a sku reserved for items that were or are produced every season, no matter the color.
One more note about the top. There’s pleat at the upper back, mimicking the pleats you see at the neckline in this photo. There’s a hook at the chest you have to undo to get into the top. You can leave it undone for a slight v-neck. I reviewed the midnight floral dress in this post.
