If you haven’t heard the news, I am in the Steve Jobs movie that was released nationwide on Oct 23, 2015. There was a films screening in San Francisco at the beginning of the month. I noticed that my digital invitation said screening, not premiere. I also knew that the film had already been been shown at film festivals.
As I expected, there were plenty of folks in regular movie going attire, e.g. jeans. I wanted to dress red carpet style. More along the lines of Independent Spirit Awards which is more casual, than say the Golden Globes or Oscars. I really hoped to wear something in my closet and wanted it to be something bright. Nothing fit properly. Quelle surprise. Not even my LBDs. I went to the mall and absolutely didn’t expect to find anything at J. Crew. I only went in because I would’ve felt really odd to not visit on my trip. I found and wore the sleeveless lace shift dress (2nd cut to $79.99) and loved it!
ETA: I found a pic of the whole look. I’m holding Madewell’s blazer coat from 2014 (review) that I absolutely love wearing over dressier looks. The current, Venice blazer coat is very, very similar if not the same coat. For another dressier coat option, see the grey monsieur coat. also at Madewell.
Sleeveless lace shift dress (FA?15, $178) runs regular 000 – 16 (E0078), petite P00 – P12 (E2540). 60% nylon, 40% poly, lining: 100% poly. Hand wash cold! Line dry. Color choices are bright ocean, grey ivory and navy black.
Size 4 – chest = 36 1/4″, waist = 35 1/4″, hip 38 & 40.5″
Size 6 – chest = 37 1/4″, waist = 36 1/4″, hip 39 & 41.5″, shoulder-to-hem length 37.5″
Size 6 – navy black – The color definitely looks navy irl. I wore last year’s Callie sandal (review on 1060 Pairs) in haven blue. I was concerned that the blue was too light for this dress, but it all looked good. The blue looked better than black, so consider navy shoes if you have them and get this dress.
The lace is pretty, just like it is on the cap-sleeve floral lace top (review), which is now $39.99, btw. I love the v-neck, which is flattering if you have an average to shorter neck length. The v didn’t feel too low for me. The fit is relaxed thru the middle and agreed very much with my figure. I ate without worry on the night of the screening. When I’m in heels, my posture makes the dress fall even better.
This dress just got a 2nd cut to $79.99 + 40% off w/FALLSALE thru Thu, 10/29. For size reference, I’m 5’0″, 34DD and 39″ hip.
Christmas! Note that today is 10/28. So if you order it today or tomorrow, 10/29, you will have until 12/28 or 12/29 to return it.
