One today…
J Crew’s flutter-sleeve shift dress in eyelet (SP17, $118) runs regular 000 – 16 (G1269), petite P00 – P12 (G2380) and tall T2 – T16 (G2397). Color choices are black, bright citron, coral reef and ivory. I’m only seeing the petite in coral and the tall in black. 100% cotton.
Size 8 – black – I tried on the white (below) in size 6. It fit ok, but hugged my stomach a little bit. I’m glad I brought this size 8 in for contrast. I’d say this dress runs tts. However, if you want that extra 1/4″ – 1/2″ in length and/or need more flow thru the body, size up one…like me.
I love my J. Crew Valentina pumps that I have on. This color has been hidden in my closet, but I found it and have worn them a few times lately. The next time you wear a black dress or black outfit, consider wearing a pair of shoes that you feel are difficult to pair — like bright ones.
Size 6 – white – I absolutely love how the texture of the fabric shows up in the white. It looks crisp and clean. I actually did not envision spilling anything on it and felt convinced I could make it thru 90% of the day without getting it dirty. Again this is the 6 and it works. I just felt completely un-selfconscious in the 8 (above).
I have had zero desire to incorporate the sleeves trend into my wardrobe. I’m interested in adding more femininity and flow to my wardrobe, but some of these crazy bell sleeves and poet sleeves are too much.
The back is cute on this. The zipper stops just above the bra strap or so. Then there’s a keyhole and ribbon tie closure. I’m 5’1″ to give you an idea of length.
The Feeling
This one is cart worthy for me. Loved it.
More reviews
I reviewed the fringy dress & gorgeous green eyelet shirtdress in this post.
Chime in…
both nice on you
I am not into the crazy sleeves either, but this dress is flattering
A JCA said she gets all these sleeves taken off by a professional tailor and that it comes out perfectly — I might do that with my Drakes giraffe when the trend is over!
Those Valentinas!
Oh, my comment went thru! I was writing only a little bit just in case the WWW ate it up! I love the White dress on you b/c you can see the detail more. But i LOVED that Black dress with the fringe from yesterday’s post on you!! Gorgeous, I hope you bought it.
I’m picking up my Eyelet dress tomorrow, but i’m not hopefully. Reviews have mentioned high-waist/too full of a skirt issue. Will report back!
I tried the Striped Tie-Waist top & it was cute, but too short (& I don’t have a long torso) and can only be worn w/high-waisted items (which I don’t own.) Not worth re-ordering in the Tall (I am the Opposite of Tall, as you know!)
The Exaggerated Ruffle was…..oooph. Lots of images came to mind: butterfly w/ its wings sewn on backwards, Sci-fi heroine, an intergalatic villain, etc. It was awful.
OK, ending comment in case this one doesn’t post! It is so good to see you here again! (heart)
PS, I meant the Exaggerated Ruffle top ?
PS, I scored a crazy popback today – last winter’s Majesty Peacoat in that Engine red color, in Petite no less! Came out to $90 + shipping. I hope it ships!
Oooo, this looks so great on you!
Appreciate the tip about the shoes. I do love bright colored and patterned shoes and then don’t wear them because I’m not sure how. I’m thinking any neutral outfit may work. Thanks for the idea!!
