What a couple of days! I’m torn being being stuck to social media and wanting to disconnect from everything. Trust is down, if not obliterated. Fear is in the air, with valid reasons. I see hope straining to peek thru and many of us want to see positive changes. However, if you don’t put your own mask on first, it’s difficult to be of help to others. Self-care is a buzzword, but not to be scoffed at. We need it more now than ever. Here’s what’s on repeat for me:
This one is everything for me. Within 30 min of getting up, I put music on. However you get yours, get some. I have XM Radio in the car. I can probably stream it on my devices, but habits. So at Starbucks and at home, I play Pandora. I sucked it up and subscribe for $5/mo. It’s better without the commercials. I like Pandora because I can shuffle stations. We mix a Let It Go channel with Aaron Copeland and Bonobo at home. When I’m working on the computer, I play the Hip Hop BBQ channel, recommended by Valley of the Shoes (@valleyoftheshoes). Another favorite is Dance Cardio Radio. At nite, I listen to Yoga Radio, also on Pandora. Lately I’ve mixed played that while playing Calmsound on Relaxing Mix. It’s very comforting. You can also check out nature sound videos on YouTube.
Blankets & Wraps
I didn’t have a favorite blankie when I was little, but I have one now! I have two Threshold microplush blankets from Target. I also got one for my sister and one for my mom so I can use it when I’m at their houses. I sure did. Also for at home, sporting events or on the go, a blanket scarf or cape scarf feels good. I’ve been watching J. Crew’s cape scarf ($69.50). It sold out very quickly when it was first released. I noted that it was re-stocked, this print is now on waitlist and it’s been excluded from promos. There’s also the cape scarf in buffalo check ($69.50). And Madewell has cape scarves ($79.50) which has sold very well. I have a couple of them.
I’ve been using about 4 essential oils over the past 5 years with minimal knowledge about use and almost no knowledge about quality. This August, I learned quite a bit more and became a distributor for dōTERRA. Check out my post on anxiety. Lavender is the “gateway” oil for many and is relaxing. If you think you don’t like the smell of Lavender, it could be because you have only smelled chemical based scents; not pure Lavender. If you’re not convinced, there are other oils to try that soothe anxious feelings.
Thankfully, I got a new-to-me oil the day before the election. Cedarwood (not picutred) has been relaxing and calming. Far more so than I expected. Plus, all three of us love it. I diffuse it at home in the Urpower diffuser. And I have an Innogear car diffuser. The car diffuser is a little fussy in that water has dripped a little from the bottom. That could be from when I park on an incline or perhaps I’m not putting the cover on properly. I do really like the diffuser for now and will try others in the future. Before bedtime, I use Serenity oil, which is a dōTERRA blend. A drop the soles of the feet and I’m good. Please know that cheaper oils are often a blend of oils, e.g. Lavender & grapeseed oil. You want pure, therapeutic grade oils, like dōTERRAs. Visit my dōTERRA site and let me know if you have any questions. And you’re invited to follow me on IG @essentiallyhip.
Food & Drink
I’m trying to stay away from indulging in comfort food and focus on drinks, instead. Not too long after getting a remission diagnosis about my mild Crohn’s, I slipped back into drinking small servings of coffee, which is a no-no for anxiety. I do my best to stick to water with a couple drops of Lemon essential oil, green tea or lemon balm tea, which is relaxing and worth the price. I saw a pic on social of bottle of bubbly set to celebrate the first woman POTUS. Needless to say her bottle went unopened. I liked the idea, though. Personally, I haven’t had any alcohol this week. It’s also not so great for anxiety. Check out this beautiful bottle by ONE Hope. Every bottle provides 15 meals to children in need. The lemon balm tea box doesn’t have glitter, so ONE Hope won for the picture.
Do some of these. All of these. Or improvise your own.
It’s gonna be TERRIFIC!
