I wanna talk about promos & free shipping, specifically with regard to J Crew. I noticed in this post on The Mothership, there were only 45 comments when I remarked…
“Uh…hello…I just realized Columbus weekend = sales. *lol* All I know is J Crew only got $55 out of me this weekend at J’Crewlet. I didn’t even take pics of what I saw because I wasn’t inspired. As far as regular b&m, I guess they are training us to buy FP and also to not expect sales when other retailers are having them. Oh and no free shipping either on % off promos. Honestly, I’m not bitter. I just think it’s all very interesting because Anthro has gotten the money I would have spent at J Crew.”
I point out that there were only 45 comments because that thread is usually hopping with information about sale items and general excitement about certain items at J Crew, even if they aren’t on sale. Last Friday, not so much.
Then in this post I said,
“I didn’t order anything from this FS. I loaded up a $400 or so cart, but was uninspired without free shipping. I was sure about $200 of it, but if I am stuck with items that don’t fit, the shipping seems painful. Yes, I emailed for measurements but they just aren’t a guarantee of how things work irl.
I realize $18.50 in shipping is not a lot to pay, considering the savings fom the original retail. However, the savings are not worth anything if I am stuck w/items I cannot wear due to bad colors and poor fit that canont be saved thru alterations. Plus, our tax is so high and it really cuts into the additional %.”
Ok, so I realize that I got 4 things at Antho (3 cardis & a necklace) and I could have gotten more on FS w/J Crew, but I just didn’t feel compelled to shop with them. The lack of free shipping along w/the EXTRA2 didn’t make me angry or irritated. Just disinterested. Anger would be a better sign than apathy. Anger would mean I care.
There has been lots of buzzing about The Earrings, but I don’t recall seeing talk about the thing that caught my eye. My VIP Telephone Line Card did not come with the free shipping offer, but the bottom of the enclosure card says…p.s. Keep an eye out for emails introducing our special benefits. Opt in by visiting My Account” at jcrew.com. I definitely have my info updated with them, so we’ll see. I’m wondering if emails like the one for the Pastiche necklace are what they are referring to. I appreciate the great service I receive with J Crew. It will be nice if there are other benefits that come with being a cardholder.
I’m just opening up a thread for dialogue about this. Yeah, I know we talk about free shipping on JCA, but now I’m really starting to pay attention to how I shop with J Crew and what they’re offering. There is a consistent rehashing of designs as of late. I am a newbie (1 year strong) and I can easily see a repeat of ruffles and chiffon that have been simply moved to different places on the same silhouette. I *did* visit a J’Crewlet and wasn’t impressed. I ended up purchasing a black Lucille (?) boucle jacket at a great price & the merino Tartine in black. I rather like the outlet version of the Tartine. Other than that I haven’t walked into a regular J Crew in almost a week. In contrast, it has been nice to check out Anthropologie and I’ve gotten a few special pieces there. Anthro doesn’t have free shipping either, but I can visit a couple of their stores. I’m still learning how to shop there. I think the clothing fit & styles are more of a match for me @ J Crew, but I will still keep branching out.
What are your thoughts on this? Ok to veer OT, too.
