Penfield Ravenwood plaid shirt (FA14, B2285, $80) runs XS – XL. The color is called red black plaid (RBP). 100% cotton.
Size M – I think Madewell has adjusted their clothing fit to be a little bigger. I was consistently a medium and have fit a small in many things as of late. I’m not including the drop-shoulder or dolman sleeve items. Based on how this looked, I chose a M over S and that was the correct choice. It fit close. This is Penfield, though, and not a Madewell item. There’s also the Penfield Stokes plaid, which is navy based.
This runs a little shorter and tighter than I expected. If you have a smaller profile, it’ll fit a little longer on you but I’m not sure by how much. I’m 5’0″ and measure 37″ across the fullest part of my chest. The tag says boyfriend fit. I guess they mean your 98-lb weakling boyfriend.
Cargo workshirt in blue gingham (FA14, B0272, $74) runs XXS – XL. The color is called dusty twilight (DTW). 100% cotton.
Size S – The website description says it’s, “Soft and lovingly worn-in.” It felt very, very fluid to me. Similar to a rayon. I was expected a regular cotton feel or flannel. This was just odd. It seems like the type of fabric that would feel cold if there was a chill in the air. I didn’t feel it would keep me warm, if needed, unless sufficiently layered. The upside to the thin fabric makes this a good choice if you want to wear fall colors, but still have warm weather in your area. The purple-y blue is year round, imo, but the long sleeves say fall.
Drop shoulders be damned!
Sculptor cardigan (FA14, A9475, $175) runs S/M and M/L. The color is called true black (TBL). Merino wool.
Size M/L – There was not one S/M on the rack to try. This size is obviously too big. It wasn’t gargantuan, though. It made me think of a sophisticated Snuggie. In a good way. The sleeves felt a little odd because they’re so narrow from the wrist to the elbow. That helps keep a voluminous shape at the top, but you won’t have saggy forearms.
A couple more views. This is a solid consider if you’ve been on the hunt for a blanket cardigan. Don’t settle, though. If I were looking for one, this would be a bit too cocoon-y for me. Yay for pockets.
Tweed front tee (FA14, B1931, $69.50) runs XXS – XL. The color is called true black (TBL). 100% cotton, Front panel: 60% wool, 40% ?
Size S – This thing. Don’t the J. Crew and Madewell teams talk. Sometimes? It should’ve been known that J. Crew has released a tweed front tee on both the retail and factory sides. This wasn’t necessary. The tweed isn’t even nice. It’s confused and thinks it wants to be herringbone.
In the pic on the right, the arrow is pointing to the wide cut that’s giving back fat. This is the first top I’ve tried on that gives back fat or side boob….on the outside of the garment. Can you tell I’m not feeling it?
