Well, well well. New arrivals are up at jcrew.com and as a whole, they are looking good. Free shipping on all orders today, Wed 1/28 only.
There are fewer drop shoulders. Yay! There’s more interest to the clothes, like the flutter tee ($55). We’ve seen that peplum style before, but there’s an interesting stitching pattern that swoops across the front. There’s also a little more tailoring, like the swing skirt in pinstripe (poly, but machine wash). The poly continues, but there seem to be more cotton fabrics in mix.
For those that have been missing chinos, there’s a broken-in boyfriend style. I wish more of my boyfriends had been broken in (slaps knee). There are a number of things that are online only, like the drapey chino and chambray pleated mini skirt.
Too bad the neckline looks low on the double-twill flounced dress ($138). That’s cute. The flounce dress in Super 120s wool ($198) is a little 80s, but I like the skirt flare. I don’t see darts or seaming at the bust, which is too bad. At least it comes in regular, petite & tall to get the fit as close flattering as possible. I learned a lesson with four or so unworn Jules in my closet. The complete shapeless is no bueno. I never reach for them.
My personal favorites are the collection chiffon fringe sweater ($228) and structured flutter tee ($55). A lot of these styles still have me wondering where I would wear them. There was an ease of the styles of yesteryear that I could really incorporate into my work clothes. The baggier pant styles, track pant styles and other casual silhouettes just aren’t cutting it. There are some things they don’t want to seem to let go of, e.g. suiting with lowcut necklines. It’s as if they fear a neckline an inch or two higher up will put it in dowdy territory. It would be more like keeping people people out of HR trouble.
I really love the midweight stripe tee ($45) and sleeveless beaded zip top ($128). Items that look like classic J Crew staples that I would actually wear and not let languish in the closet. They could’ve left the side zipper(s) off of the beaded top. Who is going around w/the bottom half of their shirt unzipped? Am I missing a great trend?
About the $88 drawsstring top in cotton oxford cloth = NO! That looks like a sad sack.
Yes, I noticed the new Ryder pants ($98) and the little bit looser Martie pants ($89.50). They Ryders look like Minnies. A big NO to the Reese pants ($95). The J. Crew, wool jogger type pants are going unworn in my closet. No more street style pants for me.
In other news, the Ludlow pants in gold linen finally went on sale ($89.99). Here are some measurements:
Size 4 – waist = 33″, hip = 39.5″
Size 6 – waist = 34″, hip = 40.5″
