Talbots patent leather lucite-heel city sandals come in plaster or black. They’re currently $55.49 at least thru Mon, 6/27. I expect the price will go back up again before it goes down.
Black – I usually wear 7.5, but sometimes 8 in sandals like these. Especially in and for warmer weather. Talbots’ shoes tend to run TTS for me, so I ordered the 7.5 (pictured). I didn’t bother trying to buckle them because I started to get very curious about the plaster color. I had expected to adore the black, but they were just ok.
Plaster – I was surprised to really like this color. I thought it was going to be more white than this. I’d describe this color as ecru. I tried the black on one foot and the plaster on the other at the same time. I preferred this one, so I tried buckling it. I couldn’t get it to buckle. I struggled & struggled, thinking I’d have bad news to report. There is a very, very small piece of elastic near the buckle, but it doesn’t really stretch. The strap of the shoe really needs to be long enough to ensure that it can make it thru the buckle. There is no other way to tug or pull (without elastic) and make it work.
So I buckled it on the last notch possible and wiggled my foot in. There was no damage to the shoe and it wasn’t too, too hard to wiggle in. They definitely fit after that. Having the shoe buckled allowed me to walk in it a bit. I was going to re-order and get the 8. However, when I walked in the 7.5, my heel wanted to pull up. To me this means the 8 would be too big. Later in the day my mom told me that my ankles were swollen. I’m 7 months & 1 week, so I guess some swelling has kicked in. I usually don’t have a problem fitting straps around my ankle. I don’t know what my ankles usually measure, so I can’t say how much bigger they are w/swelling. My guess is if you are wider around that area or the top of your foot is higher than it is flat, these might not work for you. If you’re really interested in these, you might order on the special price by tomorrow (Mon, Jun 27). Well…definitely order them to try before they go to the outlet section online, which means final sale. So far I’m keeping the plaster, but I have to think of something besides dresses that I’d wear w/them before I make my final decision. I am in love w/that lucite heel.
Strippers Dancers wear sky high heels w/lucite, but these are borderline granny. In a good way, in my book, but I’d definitely have to be careful when creating a look…to avoid granny gear, not dancer gear ;).
