J Crew’s Tippi sweater (46725, $79.50) in merino wool comes in black, brilliant yellow, celestial blue, classic pink, crushed grape, heather burgundy, heather grey, heather sandstone, ivory, marled camel, navy, neon fuchsia, retro jade, shocking pink, turquoise pool and vibrant flame. The size choices are XXS – XL.
Size S – navy – J Crew’s navy is so dark it almost looks black. That bothers me. I want my navy to be navy. When I’m getting dressed quickly, I don’t want to put on navy thinking I’m wearing black and vice verse. However, Shop With M (blog) made a good point about navy. She can wear that better than black w/her coloring, so I’m won over that the super deep navy has its purpose.
I love the Tippi. The neckline looks a like a regular crewneck in this pic, but if you place it ‘like so,’ it will sit on your neck in a 60s style. It sits slightly up and open, framing the neck in a beautiful way. I have a shorter neck and usually prefer v-necks when I can get them. In that regard, the Tippi is very flattering and not your average crewneck. I have a little Tippi club going. Current club members include navy (slimming, as you can see), burgundy, heather grey, heather sandstone, kelly green & turquoise pool. I’m banking on it being a fall staple, big time. It looks good on its own & with a buttondown under. I fit the S ok, but opted for the M in the solid colors. There are lots of reviews from 2011, but I believe the following are from this year. Check out the Tippi…
* on A Package A Day
* on Beach Chic Style (heather burgundy)
* on Ina (lemon pulp)
* on Tweed and Toile (vibrant flame)
* on Sequins and Stilettos
* on Sew Petite Gal
* The Blue Booby
* on WMM.
Tippi sweater in stripe – (16798, $89.50) comes in burgundy pink & navy turquoise. The burgundy pink was $49.99 in-store as of 9/6
Size M – I tried this on only because it’s a Tippi. And it’s in my fall color, burgundy. And it was on sale. I ended up really liking it. I decided against is because pink is not in my fall color palette and I couldn’t get beyond “with jeans” for styling options. Jeans and kick ass shoes rule in my book, but that doesn’t qualify for my 3-outfit rule. Yes, even 3 different pair of killer shoes doesn’t qualify for 3 separate outfits. Of course now the navy schoolboy is popping into my mind, but I think of that with everything. Well, my Gap version of the schoolboy. Maybe I’ll cross paths with it again. I really don’t want to cave because that pink just isn’t in my palette and I have the solid Tippi in burgundy. Yeah, Gigi, don’t get this. Wear the solid Tippi with the polka dot scarf in burgundy w/pink dot. Done. Check it out on 1 More Shopping Blog and on A Package A Day.
10/16 ETA: Size S – Color code NTU – I liked this one ok, too. Still not interested in buying it for myself, though.
