Who watched the Oscars last nite? I didn’t realize it came on at 8p. I had it locked on E! (don’t judge) and the Kardashians (I said don’t judge) because I started bumping into Oscar results on a couple other channels. That should have clued me in that I needed to check the time of the show. I tuned in way late. I was just in time to see the dance presentation for the nominated songs. That was hawt. Then I had to get the Puffs.
Thank you so much to Michael Giacchino (Oscar, Best Score for Up) who used his acceptance as an opportunity to encourage creativity in children. I know, I know, I know that that speech touched kids that needed it. What a wonderful thing to do! I certainly remember some of the standout comments that touched me in life. I was going to have this Oscar talk as a brief lead-in to one of my usual fashion posts, but I’m throwing that out the window for now. Then, I was going to have it be a Let’s Talk topic that I’m now saving for another date. Instead, I want to talk about being a woman. Fantasticness for Katheryn Bigelow the first woman to win an Oscar as Director. In addition, The Hurt Locker won for Best Picture? I gasped. My guess is Avatar thought they had it on lockdown but apparently HL was a front runner. I will be so happy to see the days when there is more than one women or ‘minority’ in the Best Director category. Oh and super loved that Barbara Streisand presented the Oscar to her.
Congratulations, Katheryn Bigelow!!! Hey, that rhymes with hero!
I almost always enjoy watching award shows. There are corporations that give out awards, y’know. I haven’t attended any, so I can’t say what they’re like. I imagine they’re not the same as the Oscars, Grammys, etc… Not that the ones on the mainstage are better. But I imagine if they give an award to Bob in Finance, I’m probably not to get pumped if I haven’t seen his work or don’t fully understand why his project was so fantastic. For award shows that are on the mainstage of the world, millions of people get to see & discuss the final product. Even if our opinions don’t matter in the long run, we still get to air our opinions about film & music in discussions, on blogs, etc..and feel like it matters.
Of course the closest many of us may get to an awards show is a seat on the home sofa. Today, however, we all win and get to toot our own horns. And that’s what I want you to do here in this thread. Let us know why you are fantastic, what you deserve an award for, etc… I encourage you to stay away from standard fare like I’m a good wife/mom/girlfriend/co-worker. That’s great. I agree. However, I want to hear something great about you. Maybe even something people don’t know, but you secretly wish they would know, realize or acknowledge. Per usual, I’ll go first:
I am fantastic because I consistently act on the desire to try and improve myself.
I want to hear something you’d like to celebrate about yourself. Please do not add any self-effacing or self-deprecating comments in your celebration. If your response has any, it will be deleted. We’re women & we’re great. Celebrate yourself please!!! No apologies. I can’t say it will be easy. I had to walk away from this post and come back to add my personal thought before completing it.
Chime in…I’m looking forward to the responses on this one! You can do it 🙂
p.s. If you don’t have a personal anthem in mind, get thee one.
